Optimizing Your Content Creation Process

I have found a way to create my podcast content and my video content at the same time by using a free Windows program called Audacity. With this program, I can load my video file and export it as an audio file, so the audio track from my video becomes the main part of my audio podcast. I do also have a little piece of intro music that I am adding to it.

If you haven’t done this before the next question might be - what do I do with that audio file? What I’m doing right now is using SoundCloud to host my podcast files. It is free up to a certain amount of audio storage area. I’m a long ways from hitting that max, so it’s a great way to get started.

SoundCloud will provide you with an embed code you can use to put the podcast on your website as well. I advise you do this. You want to build up content on your website over time. That makes it more interesting to visitors and more likely that Google will index and rank your website.

The same goes for your video file. Your videos should be uploaded to your own YouTube channel and then embedded on your website. So yes, there is still a certain amount of work involved in all this, but you’ve just got this to decide: are you going to invest time in Internet marketing or not?

Now I will get slightly promotional for minute. If you don’t have the time to do this, hire someone like me to do it for you. It will be well worth the investment in the long run. Nothing is more precious than time. You’ve got a business to run and a life to lead, so if you find yourself spinning your wheels when you would rather be doing something else…call me.

One more way to optimize is to have the video or audio file converted to text for an article or blog post. The easiest way to do that is with an online service called Rev.com. I have used Rev many times and it is a good service, and it’s pretty low cost. So you just go to the Rev website, upload your file or provide a link to a file, and then they will transcribe it and send you the text file. Wham, bam, thank you ma’am. Theoretically, a single piece of content (a video) can be turned into three pieces – a video, a podcast and a text article.

I am currently experimenting with this and other ways to optimize the content creation process. I suppose one concern could be that, doing things as described above, you’re really just giving the same information three different ways, and someone might get bored of seeing or hearing the same stuff. To which I say…you should be so lucky! Really what you are doing is providing content in different formats for people who like to consume content in different ways. One person might prefer videos. Somebody else might prefer text. Having said that, I do like the idea of changing things up however you can. This is easiest with the text part. Just change or add some words and it becomes a more unique piece.

So there you have a few quick strategies for creating content for your website or other platforms. Ultimately, I do think most of it needs to go on your website. Your website is where you want people to arrive, because that is where you are in control. But you should also feed it into Facebook as updates to your business Page, as LinkedIn articles, Google MyBusiness updates, YouTube channels, etc. Spread it around, but make sure a lot of it ends up on your website. Your site should be the ultimate home for all this stuff.
